Chest handle with backplate

Central Europe, early 16th century

Malleable iron smooth bar decorated on each side with cut tendrils tied in a loose overhand knot with swaged ball terminals. Ring knob in centre of bar with a square pin. Circular backplate molten into a stylised thistle with leaves. Decorated with grooving.
